AgriPhotonics - Data collection of plant material for knowledge-based, locally adapted, and sustainable plant production using optical and photonic methods

The international ZIM network "AgriPhotonics - Data collection of plant material for knowledge-based, locally adapted, and sustainable plant production using optical and photonic methods" is coordinated by OpTecBB and our Israeli partners Photonics Israel. The aim of this network is to bring together two different fields of technology, linking already existing approaches and strengthening them by enabling innovations at their interface. Through the international cooperation with Israel - being an innovation and high-tech hotspot, the partners of both sides should develop innovative agtech solutions for the global market.

In the framework of the “AgriPhotonics” network new practicable solutions and implementations of digital, optical technologies in sustainable agricultural processes should be developed – from farm to fork. In this context, the use of optical sensors has the advantage to enable non-destructive measurements and quality controls at each point of the production process: on the field, during harvest and along the entire postharvest processing.

The first period of the network project is running from 1st January 2020 until 30th June 2021. The network actually consists of 29 partners from industry and academy aiming to define and apply for bilateral cooperation projects in the field of agriphotonics addressing the main challenges of our time: climate change, future food security and supply, while conserving natural resources.
