Smaller, more powerful, more reliable, and more cost-effective—these demands define not only today’s electronics market. Complex, miniaturized electronic and optical systems have become indispensable in our everyday lives. Considered a key technology of the 21st century worldwide, microsystems technology opens up extensive opportunities and markets for both industry and research.
Within the Optics Cluster Berlin-Brandenburg, microsystems technology is one of six core focus areas. With around 40 companies and an excellent research infrastructure, Berlin-Brandenburg ranks among the strongest regions in Germany for microsystems technology. Beyond traditional application areas such as industry, automotive engineering, communications, and medicine, new fields have emerged in life sciences, building management, production technology, and energy efficiency.
Key focus topics in the region include
- Multifunctional microsystems
- Sensors and measurement technology
- MOEMS
- Reliability and lifespan
