PhoSenWOOD - Use of photonics and networked sensors in the forestry and wood industry
One of the greatest challenges of our time is reconciling a future-oriented economy with the sustainable management of available resources under the increasing pressures of climate change. This is further complicated by legal regulations and the resulting adjustments, which are often difficult for SMEs to implement within already established processes without at least temporarily compromising economic efficiency.
The PhoSenWood project (funded under the support of model projects for the development of forward-looking cluster concepts and innovative business models within the “go-cluster” program) aims to explore the possibilities for closer, cross-sector collaboration between members of the Photonics and Microsystem Technology Cluster OpTecBB e.V. and the regional forestry and wood industry. The goal is to develop, test, and implement innovative applications of photonic technologies and networked sensors for the needs of the entire “wood value chain.”
Using the politically and socially highly relevant field of forestry and wood as an example, the project seeks to open access to new application areas for cluster members. This enables them to respond more effectively to a changing economic landscape and to engage proactively from the outset.
The added value for the cluster lies in the exploration of new application areas and the opportunity to advance new research approaches and innovations through cross-sector collaboration, which may also be relevant for future markets. In addition, innovative processes will be established within the cluster to identify, collect, structure, communicate, and translate new trends in core technology applications into project ideas.
PhoSenWOOD started on August 1, 2021, with a duration of one year.
An initial exchange within the framework of PhoSenWOOD took place under the motto “Looking Beyond the Regional Horizon” during the Photonics Days Berlin-Brandenburg 2021. (Forest&Photonics 2021 @ Photonics Days Berlin Brandenburg).
